Account Information

When you sign up using our authentication provider:

• Email address
• Name (first and last)
• Profile picture (if provided, for example by Google sign-in)

Child Profiles and Family Settings

If you add child profiles or use family features, we store:

• A name or nickname you enter for each child, an age range, and an optional emoji avatar
• The parental control settings you choose, such as what a child profile can see, whether it can create stories, and whether its stories need your approval
• Your parent PIN, stored only as a salted hash (we cannot read the PIN itself)
• Family members and invitations, including the email address of anyone you invite
• Your approval or rejection of stories created by a child, with the time of your decision

Story Content

Stories created on the free plan are public: other users and visitors to our website can read them, for example in Browse, including any names used in them, such as a child's name or character names. Only paid plans can keep stories private. When you create stories, we store:

• Story topics and themes you enter
• Character names and descriptions
• Generated story text, illustrations, and audio narration files
• Language preferences
• Reports you submit about a story, including any details you write

Voice Input

You can dictate a story idea with the microphone button, on the website and in the mobile app. Voice input requires you to be signed in. When you use it:

• The recording starts only when you tap the record button, and your device asks for microphone permission
• The recording is uploaded over an encrypted connection to our file storage (Convex) and sent to Google Gemini, which converts it to text
• We delete the audio file from our storage as soon as the transcription request finishes, whether it succeeds or fails. Any recording that is not processed is deleted automatically within two hours
• The text is placed in the story idea box, where you can edit it. It is kept only if you create a story from it, as the story topic

Push Notifications (Mobile App)

If you allow notifications in the mobile app, the app sends us the following information, and we store it:

• An Expo push token that identifies your device for notifications, linked to your account when you are signed in
• The device platform (iOS or Android) and your time zone
• Your notification choices: story ready, bedtime reminders, and weekly topic suggestions
• Bedtime reminders are scheduled on your device itself. The token is removed from our database when you sign out of the app

Usage Data

For service operation and improvement:

• Standard server logs kept by our hosting providers, which may include your IP address. Our own database does not store IP addresses
• Session information (authentication cookies on the website, and a sign-in token in your device's secure storage in the mobile app)
• Story creation timestamps
• Website only: page views and usage events from the analytics tools described under Third-Party Services. The mobile app has no analytics tools

Payment Information

When you subscribe to a paid plan:

• We do NOT store your credit card numbers or payment details
• All payments are processed securely by Stripe
• We only store your Stripe customer ID for subscription management

Parental controls

• A parent can set a PIN of 4 to 6 digits and use kid mode to lock a session to a child profile. The PIN is required to leave kid mode, and repeated wrong attempts cause a temporary lockout
• Parents choose what each child profile can see, for example by age rating, mood, and language, or only stories they have allowed, and whether it can create stories
• Parents can require their approval of stories created by a child. Such stories are held for review until the parent decides
• A parent on a Family plan can invite a supervised teen (13 to 17) by email. The teen has their own login, the parent sets their controls, and the parent can remove them at any time

What is processed when a child uses the app

• Story ideas the child types, and the story text and illustrations generated from them. They are stored in the parent's account like any other story from that account, so a story created on the free plan is public. Stories created in Kid Mode or by a supervised family member are kept private. The ideas are sent to Google Gemini to generate the story
• Optional voice input: if the child uses the microphone button, the recording is sent to Google Gemini to be converted to text, then deleted from our storage (see Voice Input above). The button is available to whoever is using the signed-in account, including a child
• Which child profile a story was created for, its approval status, and the time of the parent's decision
• A child profile holds only a name or nickname chosen by the parent, an age range, an optional emoji avatar, and the parent's control settings. We do not ask for a child's email address, location, photos, or contacts
• We do not show ads, we do not sell information, and the mobile app contains no analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting tools
